Trophy Case: I Got 2 of Them Tonight

In the youth-ministry sense, I define a trophy as a memorable event that encourages me in my ministry efforts or shows how my work is making a difference. Tonight I had two events back to back that fit that description:

1. Tonight after small group, one of my newer students who was not sure he would fit in with the group pulled me aside to say thanks for all I’ve done. That was an obvious trophy moment.

2. Right after the conversation above happened, another student who I had trouble with in the past asked when I would be at the gym again. I ran into him there a couple of weeks ago. At that time we talked for about 30 seconds. For him to show an interest in hanging out there again is a great sign of progress with our connection. He told me he’s there every day after school from 4:30-5:30. Considering the source, that invitation is a trophy I’m super happy about.

Tonight was a great night in many ways. Those two conversations will keep me going for a while. I love my students.

  1. trophy case moments – I like that. I had them referred to as “heavenly paychecks” a long time ago, and those paychecks make it worthwhile to keep on going. Way to go man, way to go!

  2. I like that. Heavenly paychecks… kinda cool. Whatever they’re called, it’s great to see results and receive encouragement along the way.
