I agree with Jim’s thought. Here are some great ways to position yourself as a trusted person a teenager will approach:
1. Volunteer for the next retreat or event with the students away from the church. Extended time away will build memories and help students become familiar with you. This will help them feel comfortable talking to you
2. Go the extra mile. Be available through Facebook, follow up on life events (tests, getting driver license, competitions, etc.), visit their Christian club at school
3. Reveal your story. You don’t need to share all of the dirty laundry in your life. Just make sure they know you’re not perfect, you’ve learned some life lessons the hard way, and you understand how it can feel to be them
