Talking Shop about Youth Ministry

Dan Gould, youth pastor of Fusion Youth Ministry, and I connected over lunch today. He is a youth pastor in Dallas. I am a volunteer youth worker in California. It was great to share ideas from each of our perspectives. He: the paid professional. Me: the “good for nothing” (as in $$$). I especially liked that he paid for the food and that it was BBQ.

It was great to share from the volunteer perspective how a youth staff can help us excel in ministry. It was also great to hear from his perspective why he makes the decisions he does. We got a lot of great ideas and understanding of “the other side” from each other. I’ve said it several times that it’s important to talk shop with others. It’s a great source of affirmation, confirmation and new ideas.

I hope to “talk shop” more often with other youth workers to exchange ideas… and eat some great BBQ.
