Lesson Helpers: Helping Students Understand Scripture
Our small groups this week are watching a Nooma video entitled Tomato. This video is all about dying to ourselves so we can be buried in Christ and produce a plentiful harvest. (See John 12:24).
This isn’t rocket science, but I found it helped my guys grasp the topic on a personal level. I asked them if they don’t die to themselves so they can produce a plentiful harvest for Christ, what are they producing instead? What kind of seeds are they planting? What impact (negative or positive) are they having on the world around them?
This led to a pretty good discussion. I don’t do this all the time because it would get old. However, I find that getting my students to think about the result of doing the opposite of what the Bible says is a great way for them to grasp the wisdom behind what it says.
