Facebook Ministry Ideas

I’ve been talking with our high school pastor, Josh Griffin, about how we can use our high school ministry Facebook page to enhance our ministry. I asked him for some ideas for what he would like to see done. His list was so good that I thought I’d share it on my blog.

Facebook ideas:

  • Add in service times
  • Drop in some generic pictures
  • Directions to The Refinery (Saddleback Church’s Student Ministries building)
  • Add in videos
  • Upcoming series banners/posts?
  • Create event pages for specific upcoming events
  • Countdown timer to weekend services
  • Import blog feed (this is a biggie)
  • Actively seek out student “friends”
  • Actively watch friends’ status and if you see HSM, reply with something
  • Only communicate with students at the beginning of every series, not
    weekly.
  • Ditch MySpace … if we have one, delete it!
  • All communication from the Facebook is signed HSM, no specific person
  • Send friend requests to all HSM staff who have accounts, go through
their friends and hit up all of the students
  • Twitter users can follow my updates by clicking here or by sending “Follow dbeckner” in a text message to Twitter.

    2. Dennis,
great and helpful post…I am going to snitch some ideas here for our Facebook page which is wildly underused and essentially a “mass email” site….which is not what I want at all. Your post is getting my mind going in some new directions and I really appreciate it! Thanks for your blog!

you probably don’t remember but we met at PDYM in March…I was having iPhone issues and you helped me out! Been following you on twitter and checking out the blog since there…great stuff!

    3. Joel – totally remember you. I’ve also been getting your tweets. So fun. I hope to see you either @ the PDYM Student Leader conference in July or 2010 PDYM YW conference.
