Life of Jesus, pt 4
This week’s small groups were pretty cool. One of our leaders surprised the students with ice cream sundaes. That was an extra special treat. I love his heart for students.
During our large group time we:
1. Got feedback from students who went to the homeless shelter last Friday
2. Caught up on the health of one of our students recovering from brain surgery
3. Prayed for the student and for youth workers here for the PDYM youth workers conference
4. Created a video for the youth workers to say thanks and encourage them
5. Showed a video of Penn from Penn and Teller talking about a man giving him a Bible. It was a great lead in for our small group time. This video was shown at the PDYM conference today. Perfect timing
During small group we:
1. Discussed Acts 2 and talked about our role in the church
2. We mostly talked about how the Holy Spirit works through us
3. I used an illustration from something that happened on my way to teach small group tonight. It showed the importance of keeping our attention on God
4. We didn’t actually read the text. I had my guys tell the story from memory. I was proud of how well they did. I don’t always do this, but it’s a great way to show them that they do know about the Bible and can recall it when they need to
5. The video we showed in large group time was a perfect way to set this up. We can’t be the church to others if we aren’t allowing God to work through us
6. When I asked my guys what keeps God from being able to work through us, Connor had the best comment of the night. He said, “It’s all the other stuff we put into our lives before we give any of our time to God. We need to empty out those things and start with God.” Great theology
I’d give tonight a pretty high grade all around. From start to finish it was a great night. The only downside is we had several students gone because of school events. I wish more could have been there.
