Today I Met Jason Castro (dreadlock guy from American Idol) *Updated

I’m not a person to get starstruck. I do enjoy meeting famous people, I just don’t don’t become like a giddy school girl when it happens. Jason Castro from American Idol grew up with a friend of mine. Today I ran into them while they were having lunch at BJ’s Pizza. I thought it would be fun to see what reaction I got by posting it on Facebook. See below for the response.

I had my friend Kyle take this picture of me and Josh with Jason Castro in the background

The reaction I got wasn’t what I expected, but it was a pretty funny surprise:

I expected a lot of fan response. What I got instead was a friend who said her mom went crazy over the fact that I met Jason Castro. What’s funny about that is her mom is pretty conservative and has to be in her 60′s. She’s joined his fan club. The user name she chose for herself is dreadhead #2006.

I guess it just goes to show that we should never judge a book by it’s cover just as we should not ask a person to help with our youth ministry just because they don’t fit the stereotype. (Like how I made a stretch to relate this post to youth ministry?)

***Update***
Immediately after posting this blog entry, a few people posted the picture above on fan sites for Jason Castro and also on the site VoteForTheWorst.com (a site for those not fans of American Idol – warning: crude language is on the site). Since that happened, my web traffic has been about 10X higher than normal. I expect that to taper off, but it was kind of cool to see the traffic caused by that photo.

If you’re a fan of Jason Castro, please leave a comment on this post about why you love him.

I am a Jason Castro fan because of his beautiful voice; his amazing talent for singing, songwriting and playing musical instruments; his love for music; his kindness; his humanitarian spirit; his adventurous spirit; his inner light which shines through; his patience; the look of pure joy on his face when he’s happy; and his way of making others feel special. 11. I’m not sure I can explain why I love Jason. Maybe because what you see is what you get. He’s unassuming, sweet, talented, takes his career and music seriously, and has a fun side that makes us smile. He’s beautiful inside and out, and amazingly mature for a 21 year old.

  15. I first saw your comment on Twitter and then it came into my google alerts so I thought I would check out your page.

Why I like Jason Castro is because of HIM. He “shines his light” and his voice is comforting. He beams with the joy of the Lord.

So, actually, it is not a stretch from your topic on youth ministry to post about Jason Castro as he has always been active in his church and has a “heart of a servant”. He loves the Lord and like the poster before me said, check out his video on the I Am Second website.

I believe God has plans for Jason and he just used him to draw attention to your ministry as well. God is so good!

  16. Oh and I hate when I hit reply too fast LOL

but.. I made a correction and it did not show.

Jason’s voice is not only comforting, but he sings with his commitment from his heart. He is not a phoney and that is endearing. He grabs your heart.

  17. I am also a fan of Jason Castro since first saw him on AI. He is very talented – beautiful voice, charming, original and humble. I am also anxiously waiting for his cd!

  18. Jason just has an inner light in his that shines. His music always makes me smile. But mostly, he’s a very talented, good and humble person.

  19. I like Jason Castro and his music because I find myself smiling whenever I see/hear him sing. It’s kind of hard to describe why. Being a Christian, I’d say it’s Christ shining through him that draws people, but musically, I put him in the same category with John Denver. He’s peaceful, calming, original, and unique. He definitely has a gift.

  20. Jason first caught my attention when he sang Daydream on American Idol. I loved his easy going folk style singing – that he was also a musician added to his appeal. Then I saw how he conducted himself on the show – he showed a quiet confidence tempered with respect and humility toward those around him.
I knew there was something special about him besides the soothing voice. When I saw the I Am Second videos, I finally realized what it was.
I do hope people will investigate that series as there are testimonies from many individuals: http://www.iamsecond.com

  21. Brilliant, brilliant, brilliant.. Can’t wait for the next seasons auditions to start!

  22. I loved the top 5 American idol group song last night. It was a pity to see Aaron Kelly got rid of however I do think the others were better singers hence he had to go!
